Jan Magnussen and co-driver Antonio Garcia ended the 2019 season in third place in their Corvette C7.R in the GT Le Mans class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Racer Jan Magnussen–dropped by Corvette Racing for the 2020 season with the new midengine car, which debuts at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January–has confirmed through his Facebook account that he’ll at least be active for part of the racing season.
“Big News!!!” Magnussen wrote. “Running TCR Denmark in 2020 with LM Racing. Can’t wait to get out and test the racing car — and return to Danish racing”
The Denmark native, according to Touring Car Times, will be racing a Volkswagen Golf GTI in the inaugural season of TCR racing in Denmark. TCR, or Touring Car Racing cars, are essentially built to the same set of rules globally, as they are in the U.S., where they compete in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series, as well as the TC America series.

Jan Magnussen won IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles for Corvette Racing in 2017 and 2018.

Magnussen was replaced by Cadillac Prototype driver Jordan Taylor for 2020, while Ryan Briscoe, out of a 2020 ride due to the discontinuation of the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT program, has been confirmed to replace Taylor at the family-owned Wayne Taylor Racing Konica-Minolta No. 10. Taylor’s co-driver for 2019 was Renger van der Zande, but he has not been confirmed as returning for 2020.
The seemingly abrupt firing of 46-year-old Magnussen from his longtime job with Corvette did not sit well with many of the team’s fans–he was a favorite among the faithful as a spokesman for the brand at the team meet-and-greet sessions at the tracks. Magnussen has made it known that he is still interested in remaining with the IMSA series in some capacity–he and co-driver Antonio Garcia ended the 2019 season in third place in their Corvette C7.R in the GT Le Mans class, behind the two hot Porsche 911s, after winning the 2017 and 2018 titles for Chevrolet. Their Corvette teammates, Olivier Gavin and Tommy Milner, finished 2019 in eighth and 11th place in the points, respectively.
Jan’s son, Formula 1 racer Kevin Magnussen, is also known to be shaking the bushes to help his former-F1-driving dad find a job. Kevin races for the Haas F1 Team, while Jan made 25 starts in Formula 1, the last one being for Jackie Stewart’s Stewart Grand Prix team in 1998.
