Valtteri Bottas and the Formula 1 circus is on track to hit the streets of Miami in 2021.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez has vetoed the votes that threw hurdles in the way of a Formula 1 race proposed for 2021 at the site of the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium.
According to the Miami Herald, Gimenez said that he was trying to give everyone more time to find a way to compromise. The county commissioner representing Miami Gardens—Barbara Jordan—had pushed for the decisions that would make it more difficult to hold a race, one of which aimed to stop any road closures for automobile races in the county if the track ran close to residential neighborhoods. There were two proposals addressed on Oct. 29, the first which passed by 7-6, the second which managed 8-5.

The mayor’s veto can be overruled if there are nine votes against him. In his veto message, Gimenez said he had a recent meeting with race opponents, Jordan and Dolphins representatives. He hoped to work out a compromise to make the residents happy and to bring a world class event to the United States, with the economic impact expected to help the region.
There has been a fair bit of misinformation about the race, notably some very exaggerated claims about noise levels, which, of course, have been reduced significantly since the hybrid turbo engines were introduced in 2014.
The race group trying to bring Formula 1 to Miami includes Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.
