The “for sale” sign may be out at Mercedes F1.

Fresh from a spending spree that included the recent purchases of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the NTT IndyCar Series and IMS Productions, Roger Penske may be eyeing one more motorsports empire.
Reports from German media outlet Auto Bild claim that the Formula 1 world championship Mercedes F1 team is for sale. Possible suitors are said to include Russian businessman Dmitry Mazepin and American racing legend and businessman Penske.
Should Mercedes bow out of the F1 team business, it could remain in the sport as an engine supplier. Currently, Mercedes provides engines to its own factory team as well as F1 teams Williams and Racing Point.

Auto Bild said Mercedes has offered to supply McLaren, Racing Point (formerly Force India), Williams and even top rival Red Bull with power units in the future.
Penske said in his press conference to announce his purchase of IMS and IndyCar that he would be receptive to bringing Formula 1 back to the speedway, where it raced from 2000 through 2007.
Buying the Mercedes F1 team would likely make bringing F1 back to Indianapolis an easier proposition.
